John Varley formed the publishing company with his first book The Engineers Guide to Programming PICs in 1998.
John discovered how useful the PIC is while studying for his BEng Degree at Leeds Metropolitan University between 1990 and 1994. He decided that this was an area which his company, M-Jay Electronics, should be part of. This started a period of evaluation and study of PIC programming and design. The first products to be released were an alarm system for caravans, an access control for a large distribution warehouse and a digital delay for audio systems.
John is also a part-time lecturer at the Leeds College of Technology and this experience highlighted the need for information on how to construct programs to meet a specification. This resulted in the publication of the book "The Engineers Guide to Programming PICs" which is designed to provide the essential information to engineers and students on how to program, but the book does not waste space repeating information regarding the electrical knowledge that they already have.

To accompany the book a range of project boards
